R.I.P. Jean-Luc Godard

Words fail me right now but two quotations came to mind when I heard the sad news today:

Jean-Luc Godard once summarised the history of cinema by saying, “...Film begins with D. W. Griffith and ends with Abbas Kiarostami.” His fellow critic and filmmaker François Truffaut perhaps said it better when he remarked: "There is cinema before Godard and after Godard."

R.I.P. Jean-Luc Godard (1930-2022)

“I think of myself as an essayist, producing essays in novel form or novels in essay form: only instead of writing, I film them.” - Jean-Luc Godard

“Until the end, he questioned. He was a visionary. That’s why we’re all a bit like orphans now that he’s gone.” - Isabelle Huppert
